Toby is simply more alert than most people and would appreciate it if everyone stopped treating that like a character flaw. Yes, he jumped at the sneeze. Yes, the noise from the vending machine got him last Tuesday. Yes, there was shrieking … but in his defense the shrieking was proportional to what he thought was happening, which turned out to be a stapler. Toby's nervous system is running a very thorough operation at all times, fully caffeinated whether or not any coffee was involved, and it is doing its absolute best with the information available.
