Peg has a generous heart and a short fuse and the two have been in negotiations her entire life with mixed results. The amiable is in there… it comes out regularly, under the right conditions, when people are behaving in ways that suggest they were raised by someone who gave it a reasonable effort. The problem is the other times. The directional that nobody used turning into a driveway right in front of her. The spitting on the sidewalk she witnessed this morning that she is still processing. Peg has standards… not high standards, basic standards, the kind that used to be called common decency… and the world keeps falling short in ways that are frankly baffling. She is not cranky. She is responding proportionally.
