John Henry works in customer service and he has had just about enough of people. At some point it became perfectly acceptable to shout about shipping delays and expired coupons as though he personally orchestrated them. When did strangers decide he was the safest place to unload every frustration they’ve been carrying since breakfast? He stands there, steady and polite, repeating policies in his calmest voice while someone else performs outrage at full volume. The truth is, he’s just trying to do a good job. He fixes what he can, apologizes for what he can’t, and absorbs more than he should. Most days he goes home tired in a way that has nothing to do with standing.
